RSV Antibody Prophylaxis for Infants Starting October 1

Dear Parents,

We welcome the option of RSV antibody prophylaxis for children born after April 1, 2026, using the antibody nirsevimab (Beyfortus). The administration of the antibody was found to be safe and effective in a large study conducted in Spain during the winter of 2023–2024. STIKO recommends administering the antibody starting in October of each year to all infants born after April 1 of that year. Typically, the antibody will be administered during one of your well-child or vaccination appointments in October 2026.

For children born before April 1, 2026, your health insurance provider may also cover the costs under certain circumstances in some specific cases.

Statutory health insurance plans cover the costs, which currently amount to approximately 470 euros for the manufacturer and 8.95 euros for us to cover the costs of procurement, storage, and administration to your infant. Unfortunately, this rate falls far short of covering our costs.
