See you soon! Not often, but regularly!
All parents are familiar with it—and every child living in Germany has one: the yellow health record booklet. For older children and adolescents, there is an additional booklet published by our professional association. These booklets serve as a “reminder” for all parents and as a benchmark and guide for your pediatrician regarding all necessary preventive care appointments. If your child or adolescent is examined regularly by their pediatrician according to this prescribed “schedule,” the doctor can detect illnesses that could jeopardize your child’s or adolescent’s physical and mental development in a timely manner.
Preventive health care is the be-all and end-all
Of course, we perform all recommended preventive checkups for children at our practice—from the U2 and U3 exams (including hip ultrasound) through the U11, J1, and J2 exams.
You should schedule these preventive checkups well in advance:
If possible, please schedule an appointment approximately
eight weeks before your desired date.
Healthy from Head to Toe
To get a comprehensive picture of your child or teen’s health, we take a very close look at everything: We weigh and measure them, listen to their heart and lungs and feel their body, look in their ears and mouth—and talk to the parents. We also test spatial vision early on—in a casual way. And then we provide detailed advice on their current stage of development, the “milestones” they’ve reached, and those that are just around the corner.
Doing the Right Thing Early On
If you bring your newborn to us for the U2 checkup, there are a few things to note: We’ll arrange for the hearing screening to be performed by the ENT specialist right next door and provide detailed information on infant care, breastfeeding, vitamin D supplementation, and hip screening.
As part of the U3 checkup, a hip ultrasound (hip screening) is required; this helps detect misalignments in the hip joint at an early stage and thus helps prevent long-term damage to bones, muscles, and posture. Our practice has the necessary equipment to perform this screening and, if a family history of hip problems warrants it, can bring the screening forward to the U2 appointment.
Sometimes it’s also necessary to take a closer look—using our state-of-the-art “Vivid” ultrasound machine from GE, we can perform ultrasound examinations of the hips, abdomen, kidneys, liver, heart, and an infant’s skull right here in our office.
Get vaccinated on time—we'll explain everything to you!
Vaccinations are also an important part of preventive health care. Responsible pediatricians follow the recommendations of the Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO), which has developed a specific schedule of selected vaccinations specifically for young children. In addition to the
tolerability and aspects of necessary protection, this schedule naturally also takes into account the resilience of the child or adolescent, age-appropriateness, and the achieved efficacy of the vaccine. We provide you with comprehensive information so that you can protect your child or adolescent with confidence. We respect the individual
vaccination decisions made by legal guardians.
Anyone who can hear and see clearly—
—has a clear advantage!
An initial hearing screening is scheduled as early as the U2 checkup. Another screening is then conducted no later than the U8 and U9 checkups. This is because any potential hearing impairment must be detected quickly so that your child can fully experience their environment from the very beginning and share all their experiences with you. The same applies to vision, which is screened more thoroughly starting with the U9 checkup. Our practice is equipped with the necessary tools to conduct reliable hearing and vision tests—so we can respond immediately if there’s any cause for concern. This is the best foundation for the healthy development of your child and teenager!
